Jan O’Highway - “I work across a range of media, from fused glass, colourful mosaic and sculpture with hand-built and glazed ceramic to large-format digital prints.
Over the years I have received many commissions for public and private spaces, and I have extensive experience with community and education projects. Commissioned pieces are usually figurative and easily read while personal exploratory work is mostly abstract.
The impact of waste, plastics and oil on our planet is a huge concern and I often include found objects in my work, drawing attention to the uniqueness of the things we ignore and discard - the extraordinary richness of shape and meaning to be found in the unvalued fallen flower or plastic toy, changed by time.
